Cannibal Corpse-KILL April 2006
| Cannibal Corpse-KILL Metal Blade By Ruben Mosqueda
|
Is it just me or has something changed? I mean there's something a tad different about these guys, with the record KILL they have done away with the gross, disgusting, sick album covers and went for something simple. This would definitely grab you attention if you're walking by the metal section of your local record store. Also worth noting for people like me that really haven't kept up with the band, this is the first record since the departure of longtime member Jack Owen.
I'm familiar with the early work of Cannibal Corpse with Chris Barnes and a couple of records since his departure. On KILL it seems like a different band to me, like night and day or life and death if you will. The songs sound harder, heavier, and the vocals are crisper, not clean by any means, but in your face. Erik Rutan likely had something to do with this as he served as producer for the record.
The song content is still traditional death metal of course! Here's some favorite titles; “Five Nails Through the Neck,” ““Barbaric Bludgeonings,” “Brain Removal Device” and the best title on the record “Submerged in Boiling Flesh.” Mmm…mmm…good! If you were a fan, then left, pick up KILL you'll be pleasantly surprised. Did I just use pleasantly in a Cannibal Corpse review?!
