Dining With Bloodsimple Six Feet Under, Sworn Enemy, Animosity & Thine Eyes Bleed
Tuesday, March 28th at Rock N Roll Pizza in Portland, Oregon

By Marc Halverson

I have seen Sworn Enemy a few times and they always destroy the place but I was also curious to see Animosity, Thine Eyes Bleed, and the legendary Six Feet Under. Each band ripped through their sets furiously with intensity and power which kept the crowd moving all night long.

First, Thine Eyes Bleed from Ontario, Canada took the stage and pummeled Rock N Roll Pizza with their straight ahead “aggressive thrash metal”. They played several songs from their debut album “In the Wake of Separation”. The crowd responded well and they ignited the beginning of a brutal mosh pit which lasted throughout the night.

Next, the quintet from San Francisco, Animosity, attacked the crowd with their brutal blend of death metal/hardcore/progressive metal. The tore threw songs from their latest release “Empires”, led by the deep growls and screams of front man, Leo Miller. Despite an average age of 18-19, do not let their youth fool you because they bring an arsenal of intensity and power that will blow people away when you see them live. They are a very solid group and look for them to continue to grow and dominate in the future.

Following them, the “Kings of Queens” Sworn Enemy took the stage. The opened with 'Forgotten” off their brutal and powerful new release “The Beginning of the End”. Every time I have seen Sworn Enemy, they deliver and they are one of the best and most solid live bands around, period! Led by front man Sal, Sworn Enemy took the mosh pit and hardcore dancing to a new level. Guitarists Lorenzo and Jamin, shredded through songs from every album and were followed by the tight bass lines of Ed and the double bass blasted precisely by Pauly. Sal commented that the Rock N Roll Pizza was the best and craziest crowd they had ever played for in Portland over the years. Songs like 'As real as it gets', 'Scared of the Unknown', 'Sworn Enemy', 'One Way Trip', 'All I Have'. 'Save Your Breath', and 'Here Today', Sworn Enemy took total control of the crowd and Rock N Roll Pizza.

Finally, the legendary Six Feet Under were set to play and they picked the crowd right back up with their straight ahead brand of Florida death metal. They blistered through songs from their latest release “13” to their earlier material on “Haunted”. I had never seen them live before but I was impressed with their presence and sound. They are definitely one of the best death metal bands around and it looks like they will continue to destroy anyone and anything for years to come. In short, it was a great show with a solid line-up of pure metal, death metal, and hardcore at its best. Everyone got their money's worth and their head kicked in at the same time. Sworn Enemy and Six Feet Under owned Rock N Roll Pizza and I will definitely see them again, the next time they come through Portland.
