Henry Rollins
Henry Rollins World
By Robin Steeley

Henry Rollins is our generation's cultural icon. Having completed more projects in the past decade then most artists will work in a lifetime Rollins keeps continuously busy and has most recently finished invading the U.S with his talking tour entitled "Shock and Awe My Ass". Known for his incredible writing skills as well as his cynical take on the world around him, Rollins is one of those fascinating people that will surely leave their mark on the world.

Having recently released "Live At Luna Park" to critical acclaim, Rollins is set to choose his own next step in the industry but instead has chosen to go on an extensive overseas USO tour to entertain American Troops in the field. "Live at Luna Park" is a compilation of the best material from Henry's weekly speaking performance at a West Hollywood club called Luna Park.
I have heard it described as "Candid and frequently hilarious" and I couldn't agree more, it is full of euphemisms and witty observances said in a way that makes you wish you had said that, but never had the balls too. My favorite part was probably the 20-minute bonus feature "Rollins Vs. Iggy Pop" where Henry describes sharing a stage with the frenzied Iggy Pop, who is another of my all time favorites.

Often described as brash, opinionated, and even blunt, Rollins says the things you wish you had said. His work is nothing if not thought provoking, and should really stir up the passions of those who agree with him, as well as those who are categorically opposed to his theories.

If you don't know the history, Rollins was once the famed Frontman of the infamous punk act Black Flag, however it would be insulting to define him as just a singer since he has gone on to be a formidable author, talented actor, and entertaining monologist. If that isn't enough Rollins has his own record label/publishing company, 2.13.61 that has released books and CD's by cultural heavyweights such as Henry Miller, Hubert Selby, Jr., Nick Cave, Exene Cervenka and Iggy Pop, just to name a few.

With a rock hard physique any gym goer would envy and his signature scowl, Henry is the type of person that I would feel incredibly honored to meet and just have random conversation with. He has accomplished so much and is still a down to earth guy.
Henry Rollins
He is the epitome of punk rock, and regardless of his success has never changed his ideals, persona, or direction. If I had to define him in one word (a harrowing task), it would simply be ARTIST.

If you want to get a REAL taste of Rollins don't take my word for it; you can hear him live Monday nights from 7-9pm where he will play fantastically obscure but brilliant songs as well as give us a big dose of his commentary. Don't miss this! If you are on the west coast, you can listen in on 103.1 but if you aren't near LA, I suggest checking it out online at www.indie1031.fm
