Crossfade Artist - Crossfade
Album - Crossfade
Label - Columbia Records
Rating - *** ½
Reviewer - Marc Halverson
Coming right out of the southern music scene, South Carolina’s Crossfade, deliver with a solid debut offering. Comprised of heavy hitting riffs and melodic vocals; Crossfade appeal to the likings of bands such as Nickleback, Shinedown, Seether, Saliva, and Trust Company. Crossfade seem to fit right into the current hard rock/melodic scene with their own sound that may push them ahead of the rest.

The album opens with a heavy hitting riff on “Starless” and quickly transitions into melodic vocals of front man Ed Sloan, who is the primary focus of their sound. Next, “Cold” is a solid hard rock song that brings Nickleback to mind. It is has a catchy chorus and definitely the most radio friendly track on the album. “So Far Away” turns up the energy a notch and it definitely one of the most solid tracks. “Death Trend Setta” is reminiscent of Saliva’s “Your Disease”. “No Giving Up” is a catchy track about never giving up and staying strong. “Disco” is fast track that has a Hed Planet Earth vibe to it. “The Unknown,” is a slow and relaxing track with smooth vocals that brings the album to a peaceful close.

Crossfade definitely belong on the top of the hard rock/melodic scene and they can only move forward from here. With Ed Sloan being the main focus of their sound, his unique voice is a cut above the rest in their genre. If you dig bands like Nickleback, Shinedown, and Saliva, then pick up a copy of Crossfade and find out why these southern rockers deserve your utmost respect.

Crossfade are:

Ed Sloan – Lead vocals and guitar
Tony Byroads – Lead guitar and backing vocals, turntables and sampling
