Hailing from Las Vegas, Magna-Fi offer up their debut album “Burn Out The Stars” on the biggest summer festival of the world, OZZFEST, being awarded a coveted spot on the rotating second stage on the world tour. The album borders between alternative and hard rock and should be totally acceptable in both arenas. Produced by Paul Lani (Megadeth) the album features ten rock-riddled tracks.
The album starts out with their now hit single “Where did We go Wrong”, which is currently the third most added track on the active rock charts. It is a catchy rock track that has a memorable chorus, a formula often repeated on this disc.
It’s followed by more alt-rock driven anthems such as “This Life,” a slow burning power ballad that displays the incredible vocal abilities of Mike Szuter who has an angst ridden but achingly rhythmic voice, a highlight throughout the album. One of my favorites is the heavy bass driven “T.V. Killed Me” that shows the heavier side of the bands roots.
Overall, It’s almost got a Seattle post grunge feel to it, but without all the melancholy “woe is me” lyrics. Well written and well produced, the songs are original and dynamic, and definitely worth a second spin.
