Waiting For The Sun Artist - Waiting For The Sun

Reviewer - Erik W. Beyer
This independent release laid out several interesting elements. From the aspect of a critical ear, especially towards self-releases where the recording quality may not be up to par, I found this album to bring in a different approach to the sounds I have been listening to lately. Particularly, I love the intelligibility, which is the ability to hear and understand the words. You are also able to specifically pick out the individual guitar parts, bass, drums, vocal harmonies, and so on. One thing I did notice and feel I should mention it is the phasing issue on a couple songs, but only on the drums, probably overheads or tom microphones crossing pick-up paths. Easy fix in the future.

I was please to hear the flow of the album kept me hooked and wanting to hear more, and learn about the sounds they delivered. Track 2, “What I Wouldn’t Give,” is a great track, fat with sound. Half way through there is a break in the intensity and abruptly picks back up, all done extremely well. The song arrangements are very powerful and really come across as a talented group of musicians. I would love to see them reproduce it all live! Track 3, “Freefall,” starts out as many songs have with a guitar-picking lick, driving the tune. Give it less then a minute and the sound reminds me of some of the newer Rush material in the mid-90’s albums. You find more of that sound in track 5, “Fragile.” Track 6 starts out with a wall of sound and settles into what I have determined is a true signature sound of Waiting For The Sun. This band is all about dynamics and energy.

This young band consists of Bo on guitar and vocals, Brett on guitars and vocals, Neal on drums, and Casey on bass. All of them in their early 20’s, these guys have some serious energy and talent and have great potential. They bring an intense modern sound to the table with elements of the classics we should all love and embrace in this band.
