Mindcell, Syx, Jahai
6/24/2004
Tonic Lounge in Portland, OR
By Robin Steeley

Tonight was just another mind-bending experience on a Thursday at the Tonic. The bands played to a packed crowd and lots of enthusiasm. Unfortunately, I got there too late to catch one of my favorite local acts, the mighty JAHAI. These guys are worth the trip every time and not seeing them was the only bad part of my night. Although disappointed I got over it quickly when Syx took the stage, they are one of those bands that commands a room when they start to play and tonight was no exception. Playing some of their widely known favorites the band displayed their unique style before tearing up the room with three new songs, songs that show their versatility and strength despite recent line up changes.

Next up is Mindcell, who never cease to blow my mind. If someone asked me who my favorite local band was right now, I would probably have to say it was these guys. They are a solid unit and feature a true Frontman in Travis, he works the crowd and the energy they generate is just incredible. Musically they are skilled and a tight unit and they each produce their own amount of power on stage, combining it all to create their unique sound.

Overall it was a great place, great bands, and great music. What more can I say?
