Artist - Dont Look Down
Album - The Fear in Love
Label - Nitro Records
Reviewer - Robin Steeley
The Fear in Love is Don't Look Down's latest full length release on Nitro Records. The album is a much awaited follow up to the bands 2002 debut Start the Show. The hard working quartet has been together since high school and their music has shown the slow march of maturity, especially in their songwriting capabilities. The pop is heavier then their previous releases and the intricate guitar work is outstanding. Over all is the compelling voice of Ryan Ogren who leads the band into clean harmonies and pounding rhythms. While it is much like popular music of today, they have their own unique style that keeps them ahead of the rest.
"The Fear In Love" is produced by Brian Mcternan (Thrice, Hot Water Music) and showcases his talents in the studio with its clean production and solid sound. Overall, it is a dark tinged mixture of pop punk with hook laden choruses that are seemingly memorable. Some highlights off the album include songs such as "Trust Is a Work", the rhythmic "Stages Of Dying" and my favorite, "Last Breath".
