Nonpoint Artist - Nonpoint
Album - Recoil
Label - Lava Records
Reviewer - Robin Steeley
Miami’s Nonpoint rocked up from the NuMetal underground with their debut album “Statement” in 2000. After extended touring, the band is back with “Recoil”, their third release, and it’s full of their trademark melodic metal sound. It was recorded at Bieler Bros. Studios and produced by Jason Bieler and Nonpoint.

Recoil begins with “The Same” which starts out with a sleazy crunch and some heavy breakdowns. The music has a nu metal flavor that is unrelenting. Next up is their radio single “The Truth” a furious tirade against the war on Iraq. They slow things down a little bit with “Wait” and “Broken Bones”

Other highlights include the Interesting and Spanish laced “Rabia” which translated means Rage, as well as headbanger “Done it Anyway” full of intense lyrics and a low-end punishing bass courtesy of Bassman KB. I also love the cover they did of Phil Collins hit “In The Air Tonight”. It’s an unexpected choice to cover, but put together thoughtfully and the drums really carry the song into excellence.

Singer Elias Soriano has an impressive voice that is backed skillfully by the musicians in the band, especially guitarist Andrew Goldman. The percussion, provided by Robb Rivera is also very powerful, that double bass kick is used continuously and a has tinge of tribal influences that winds its way through the music

Overall, the band has dynamic energy, great hooks, and a volatile attitude that may cross the NuMetal arena into powerful hard rock. “Recoil” showcases the bands musical development and has 13 tracks of the signature Nonpoint sound that should appeal to past fans and someone looking for some edgy new music.
