My good friend Taylor from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada turned me on to this band called Porcelain Youth. The first track I heard was Stick, the second one on the five tune cd, and my personal favorite. It has a sex groove like you would not believe.....but here's the thing.....this is a three piece band of fifteen year olds that Taylor is friends and classmates with.Imagine my surprise. This demo fuckin rox with a grown man sound, and the only thing that gives em away is the juvenile lyrics. But much like some of my other fave bands, the music and vocals more than make up for that.Besides...they have time on their side.
Nice production and mix by Carl Jennings at Westmoreland Recording Studios. The band members are Jesse Daigle on guitar and lead vocals, Daniel Seniuk on bass, and Adam Cannon on drums. All very good musicians regardless of their age.Sick drums, Adam.*G* More about where to see them at www.porcelainyouth.com.Taylor says they are even better live, which is rare.
Their sound is a mix of Green Day and Nickleback, and perhaps some Shinedown. The fourth cut, The Curse, actually makes good use of an accordion (I know!!)...and has a System of a Down flavor. It’s the sort of tune that grows on you...making it my second favorite.*S*.
I sent samples to a couple of friends, who, like me, are lifelong musicians, and whose opinions I trust.Oliver, a guitarist in The Hague, The Netherlands says "the vocal work is very very good for kids their age......especially the harmonies.......reminiscent of Alice in Chains in some ways, which is a feat all on it's own.....you can hear they still have a lot of maturing and developing to do in their musical writing.but they have a lot of potential" My friend FREAK in New York, a bassist, says, "well ya got my vote, they kick ass.....some of the best sounds I have heard in years come from such young talent. They show a lot of devotion and heart for the music." I agree...lotsa heart, lotsa potential and talent. An A+ on this the first of a promising future in rock
