Ryan Cabrera Artist - Ryan Cabrera
Album - Demo
Label - Atlantic Records
Reviewer - Cheryl Ault
Well, I finally gave this cd a listen, and I was pleasantly surprised. Its not my musical preference, but I can appreciate a budding songwriter. He's got a very nice voice. He uses it well.Although I must say that I could tell he has range...but I'm not getting to hear it here.Although theres only the three selections from his debut album (Take It All The Way) on my promo, I have heard samples of the rest and he shows his range nicely in the ballad called She's, and another, Echo Park.He hits some sweet sounding high notes. What I'd like to hear is the power behind that control.I'd like to hear him belt out a song or two.I understand his live performances are his best and favorite work, and I'd be willing to bet he shows some power in his vox then.

On the way down is the first cut. It’s a catchy song with a dance beat and a darker style of lyrics than I was expecting. The accoustic version is available on his cd, recently put on the market under the Atlantic label. Lets Take Our Time is very boy band.Reminds me of Backstreet.I know two ten-year-olds that thought this cd was too soft, although to be fair, they like Drowning Pool, so...lol.I gotta say, if this is the style of music you go for, then Cabrera wont disappoint. He is a good looking 20-year-old on the verge of something big, and with Joe Simpson as his manager, nothing can stand in his way.The final cut , called True, reminded me of Dan Fogelberg, one of my favorite artists. Not the lyrics, but the guitar and vocal melodies, were distinct and pretty.
