Stockton’s Liquid Conscience is a band that makes every crowd they play fo go nuts. With 3 gifted musicians that use a mixture of styles including Punk, Metal, and perverted comedy material Liquid Conscience is something different to listen to. Liquid Consciences guitarist Shane Hoeser is a gifted musician that just blows your mind with his viscious rthym licks and immortal guitar solo’s that are compared to Kurt Hammett and Joe Satriani. Shane is a real cool kid and has more talent and drive than most people I see play on a weekly basis. I had the opportunity to interview Shane and this is what he had to say.
MV- When did Liquid Conscience form?
SH- Around December of '02
MV- How does Liquid Conscience write your material?
SH- Its a collective effort from all of us in the band. When we write new material, each of us is contributing ideas for about an hour. We usually write a new song for every hour spent practicing new material.
MV- What is the hardest thing about being in Liquid Conscience?
SH- Finding enough time to practice is the biggest problem for us. Also not having pro equipment plays a big factor in a bands sound
MV- What are your biggest influences as a guitarist?
SH- Rhythm guitar and lead guitar are to very different sides of the spectrum. For rhythm, James Hetfield, Dimebag Darrell, Slash, Vivian Campbell, and Jerry Cantrell are my biggest ones. For Lead... Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Tony Macalpine, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and David Gilmour.
MV- What do you think is the most important thing a band needs to do to get noticed?
SH- A following, an image can help, and good attitudes and of course, the music has to be solid.
MV- How would you describe a diehard Liquid Conscience fan?
SH- Somebody that supports us inside and outside of the shows. Whether its putting up some horns or putting up some flyers / telling people about us.
MV- What is your favorite part about being in Liquid Conscience?
SH- The fact that I don't have to worry about how I look on stage, that I can go up there and have a great time. Also the fact that I get along so well with Jason and Brian.
MV- When your just chilling out, what music do you listen to?
SH- Mostly the groups that the artists play in that I listed before as my influences.
MV- I know you play a Gibson SG. If you could be endorsed by any brand what kind of guitar would you choose?
SH- I'd be torn between Gibson and Ibanez
MV- You guys just recorded a 3song demo how would you describe the experience?
SH- It was very exciting for me because it was my first experience recording guitar tracks and singing in a studio atmosphere. Adam (of ProView Studios) was fun to work with and, rather than it being a hassle, the process was very streamlined and interesting.
MV- How did you guys go about choosing the songs for the recording?
SH- We chose the songs that we most wanted to hear first, if that makes sense. We also asked a bunch of our friends that know our material well and got their input.
MV- What do you see for the future of Liquid Conscience?
SH- I see bigger shows, more cd's, and a hell of a lot more fun
MV- Is there anything that you want to tell your fans before we go?
SH- Thanks for supporting us through thick and thin.
