Scum of the Earth's CD was produced by Michael Beinhorn (Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Irv Gotti. It will be the first CD to feature UMixIt™ interactive technology, an enhanced feature that allows listeners—should they desire a little more grind in tracks like “Pornstar
Champion”—to play producer/Dr. Frankenstein and isolate, violate and remix on their computer, up to 16 audio tracks by emphasizing, cutting back or removing any instrument or vocal.
In addition, Scum of the Earth has lensed a video for the single “Get Your Dead On” with director Rob Prior (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), based on his upcoming film Shadow Walker, currently in pre-production. The unique horror film's main character will be the basis for the clip which, in an unprecedented move will introduce the mythology of the Shadow Walker villain before its appearance in a film, comic book, or video game (each is scheduled for release next year). Prior conceived the Shadow Walker, a violent creature from New Zealand folklore that moves only within darkness, with groundbreaking comic book writer Paul Jenkins ("Origin: The True Story of Wolverine," "Spider-Man: Return of the Goblin," "The Incredible Hulk," "Darkness: Resurrection"). Prior, a renowned master of photorealistic comic book art (he crafted the creatures for the uffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), designed the Shadowalker. Jenkins and Prior decided that music video would be the ideal medium to introduce what they hope will be the breakout monster franchise of 2005.
Crave: So how has the tour been so far?
Riggs: It's alright you know our record came out three days ago - nobody knows any of the songs.
Crave: How has the buzz been since the release of the CD on the 26th?
Riggs: It's been good, you know - everything's been really good. Getting people to know we're on tour is the tough part. People seem to know the records out, but not seem to know we're in their town for some reason.
Crave: What was the craziest thing you ever saw on tour with Rob Zombie?
Riggs: There's so many. Where all does this magazine go to? Three naked chicks lined up on their knees getting the Jagermeister enemas which drained into bowls of fruit loops, whoever fills their bowl of fruit loops and eats it first wins. Do you know what they won? That they finished first. It was a pure pride competition.
Crave: Is it true that you drink blood out of your guitar during your set?
Riggs: Yes, cooking blood from Mexican butchers.
Crave: Tell me a little about what was behind naming the album “Blah …Blah…Blah…Love Songs for the New Millennium."
Riggs: One... that I couldn't think of a name, and we say that all the name 'blah blah blah'. That was the name originally, then listening to the songs, what they're all about, we added Songs Of The New Millennium mother fucker.
Crave: What was it like making the video “Get Your dead on” with Rob Prior? (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shadow Walker)
Riggs: It was like the longest video I ever did in my life. We were out there for a week and it's quite an experience. They're making a movie called Shadow Walker so you get to see the monster character before the movie. They try to make a story out of it, but it's rated R, so we had to make a PG version for MTV. We had to cut out all the cool shit - the nudity, violence and blood.
Crave: How did the name Scum of the Earth come about?
Riggs: It was just always kind of my monocure. You know, it's tattooed on my...
Crave: Do you remember what your first album was?
Riggs: Venom. Welcome to Hell.
Crave: What CD have you been listening to or bought lately?
Riggs: It seems like I listen to a lot of KORN lately. I've got every one of their CD's in my CD player at home.
Crave: What's your favorite city or venue to play?
Riggs: I think some of the funnest places are in the Midwest. Like Moline. Either in Illinois or Indiana. Fort Wayne. They're just complete maniacs.
Crave: Do you have any advice for new artists looking for a career in music?
Riggs: Go to college. *laughter* It's a lot of hard work. Stick with it.
Crave: So tell me what's in the future for Scum of the Earth?
Riggs: Hopefully good shit. Hopefully word will get out about the record.
