LAST GO 'ROUND WITH MEGADETH ELECTRIC FACTORY in PHILADELPHIA, PA
By STEVE TRAGER
Megadeth -- one of rocks premier metal acts since the eighties has returned with a brand new studio record called The System Has Failed, First effort from front man Dave Mustaine since his injury to of which he was told he wouldn't be able to rock out on guitar. Megadeth for years defiantly well known for saucy guitar licks, pure pounding vocals and super craftsmanship that only Dave Mustaine created behind this band from day one. Megadeth alone have brought to the table not only great music, simplistic videos, and heart pounding live spectacle world tours. Much like any band theses days lineup changes seem to make some sort of role play through out any given career of any band. This record alone demonstrates Dave's strong ability recreate that common signature sound that Megadeth has possessed since their formation. Some say this will be Megadeth's last go 'round as a touring act, noone is really sure what Dave's intentions are, but we might as well enjoy them as a touring act without the original lineup with the likes of Dave Ellefson on bass, long time guitar axemen Marty Friedman, and Nick Menza on drums. Megadeth within its self as a live band can only be etched in ones mind as a unique but superior band at that.
During Megadeth's tour of north America, I myself who have been a true fan of this band since the days of seeing them perform at the spectrum, they have scaled down their tour to playing smaller more intimate venues like the electric factory in Philadelphia where Megadeth performed a sizzling catalog of hits spanning their lifetime of musical achievements. Even though Megadeth isn't the same line up at the present moment facing the stage from a fans point of view, they still sounded great with the likes of " SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION ", " IN MY DARKEST HOUR ", " SKIN O' TEETH ", " TRUST ", and " PEACE SELLS " . We have tendency to forget how great Dave sounds on the guitar, especially on his solos for instance " WAKE UP DEAD " and " " TRAIN OF CONSEQUENCES " A bit of a disappointment this tour, Dave didn't bring along his double neck custom Jackson where he would plug in play a song on it, none the less Megadeth's current line up musically speaking is as Dave would say, the best musicians formed in sometime, despite his parting ways with his long time band mates after his injury which forced him to slip into the shadows for a bit.
Even if this may be the last tour for Megadeth, we can actually still give props to Dave Mustaine and his lineup for one amazing show at Electic Factory.
