Review By Robin Steeley
Photography At Night, by acclaimed photographer Richard Newman gives you an in depth look at the exciting world of low light photography. All the typical daylight rules are broken, and the use of light levels and contrast give dramatic effect to nighttime images. Low light photography is both exciting and a formidable challenge. While the textures, richness, and glorious color make it all worthwhile, there is still the obstacles of blur, dimness, and finding just the right amount of ambient light.
This book is an important resource and tool in your quest for nighttime photography. It displays simple exercises that allow you to practice with the different possibilities of this art. It covers the technical phases of both digital and conventional cameras; you can find comprehensive lessons and a wealth of information about the subject. Inside the 128 pages, you can find direction on how to analyze results and learn from mistakes to establish a uniform style when dealing with low light levels.
For beginners to established photographers, everyone will find a valuable lesson here. If I had to dish out some constructive criticism here, it would be that it is lacking in information for the digital photographer, mostly covered here is the world of film photography. Perhaps in a revised edition they will go into more depth about this new and exciting realm in shooting pictures. Most helpful to me were the assignments given and the technical information included.
