Portland natives Kapuda have independently released their debut album, The Power of Negative Thinking, recorded at Unusually Sound Studios and engineered by Gabe.
The CD gets off to an immediate crushing start with the song “Procreate” which is filled with rapid fire drumming and death metal vocal howls. The tempo changes keep it interesting as they lead into the next song “Lab Rat”
Which starts with a sample “You’re one Sick Fu%$!” before launching into a lung busting scream that would make any death metal Frontman proud.
Some other highlight tracks off this offering are the slower burning “Cold” which tricks you into thinking it’s a mellower track before it breaks down into a sickeningly heavy chorus. This is probably my favorite track with its hooky melodies and complex guitars. I also really got into “Basement” with its sludgy bass and vocal changes, as well as the faster “Bound” that got me stomping around in my chair.
Overall this band shows a lot of promise and I will definitely be keeping an eye on them in the future.
