Wednesday 13 Artist - Wednesday 13
Album - Transylvania 90210
Label - Roadrunner Records
Reviewer - Robin Steeley
Shock rocker Wednesday 13 of Murderdolls fame is set to release his long awaited solo effort “Transylvania 90210... Songs Of Death, Dying And The Dead” on Roadrunner Records April 11th, but we got the chance to check out the album before its release. Credited for spawning a new genre labeled “horror core” Wednesday is big on theatrics. What more can you expect when the other band members are named Pig, Kid Kid, and Ghastly?

The overall theme is a blatant obsession with horror movies, cartoons, and death all subjects that rear their heads often in the songs on this offering. All this creation and yet he still finds time to be a regular columnist for Metal Hammer as well as raise a family and work as an artist. Wednesday has been heavily influenced by bands such as Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie and the elements of those sounds are incorporated into his own unique style and performance.

The music itself is fairly simple rocking its way between genres with a unique blend of sounds that incorporates punk and thrash style metal with a psychobilly sound that is reminiscent of bands like The Cramps. The lyrical content borders on hilarity with over the top offensive subject matter that is sure to send parents cringing but leave the kids wanting more. With titles like “Post Mortem Boredom”, “Look What the Bat Dragged In” and “Elect Death For President” how can you go wrong?

Highlight tracks are the evil “Rot For Me” and the guitar led “Haunt Me” but you would be hard put to find something on this CD that isn’t interesting.
