It is pretty amazing these days what bands are coming up with in the way of DVD material, what with the totally cool footage of rare shows, and usually a little something extra hidden within for the craftier seekers. In fact it is common to hear that some are so good it is like seeing the band play for you without you ever leaving home.
Well, Toology is NOT an example of this. Bluntly, Toology is a crazed fans collection of about 20 photos that are flashed across the screen in different order while this fool narrator blathers his nonsense in an eerie monotone. Although it says right on the DVD box that the material is unauthorized, and that there are no live performances by any of the band members, I was shocked that such a worthless bunch of drivel could be put out in the name of any band. Does this fan have any respect? Definitely not for any of the poor Toolfans that laid down ten bucks for it. And obviously not for Tool.
What really blows me away is the list of features and Bonus Material:
It's digitally remastered (Nonsense- it's a guy mumbling into his minicassette recorder)
It is Dolby Digital 2.0 (wow)
It has a fullscreen version. (Clever)
Interactive Menus. (bullhonky)
and Scene Selection (imagine that- the ability to choose which scene you would like to see and voila- it appears! How Dick Tracy)
So in the interest of saving any of my Tool buddies the loss of any cash towards the purchase of this DVD, I recommend that you do NOT buy this one. And do not let any of your friends buy it.
