Sno-Core Tour 2005 With HELMET, CROSSFADE, FUTURE LEADERS & STRATA The Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, PA
By Steve Trager
Much like the monster tours of say Warped Tour, which generally sets the sight of today's punk and or hard core under ground artists, the annual run of the Sno-Core this year seem to be the best lineup to date so far. The sno-core generally is a much more down sized type of tour which features lesser known to multi-platinum selling artists from abroad. I my self have to admit over the years of attending the sno-core tours here in Philadelphia, you get a wide spectrum of talent at a blink of an eye. This years package is to of no exception with the likes of Strata who also was on last years run, Future Leaders of The World, Crossfade, everyone's favorite Helmet, and soaking up the spot light of the sno-core multi-platinum sellers Chevelle.
On the opening slot of the tour, Strata performed a quick and tasty set which featured songs from their debut CD on the Wind Up label that included- " piece by piece," " when it's all burning," and "we' ve changed." Up next the sno-core tour featured Sony recording artists Future Leaders of The World who rocked out to selected tracks off of their latest CD LVL IV where they featured a few tracks "everyday ", " let me out ", and "make you believe "
Here is a band who has been around for more then a year and has finally earned some radio points with one single so far.... Crossfade who has toured with Alterbridge last year, ended up on this years sno-core tour. you have to admit the CD rocks and these guys are full of energy yet really know how to rock. Crossfade alone has the hard driving sound with steel balls type of reinforced style of home grown heavy rock influences that make them stand out. Hard to believe that after a years release of their debut, Crossfade is finally getting some radio rotation around the dial and are successfully touring later this year as a headliner. Crossfade entertained fans to their quick but extreme set which featured "Cold ", " So Far Away ", and "Disco "
In the fourth slot of the annual sno-core tour everyone's favorite Helmet who have tour extensively as headliners, yet this isn't the original lineup other then the rhythm guitarist who sings lead vocals. either way its still Helmet god ole' fashion moshable tasty rock pure and simple with no doubt. The high light of their set had to be when they performed "Unsung " which is quite familiar to those fans from the old school helmet days. Definitely been some time since these guys rocked out in Philadelphia.
Topping out the entire evening at this years sno-core tour in Philadelphia at the trocadero. A band who really doesn't need any more media coverage then they first got when they opened the main stage at Ozzfest 2003, Chevelle. with only two very successful multi-platinum efforts, a fist of singles reaching their peak of radio airplay, Chevelle has headlined their own tours so for this band headling the sno-core tour was just another notch in their rock belt of touring. How many trio rock acts can step on to a stage and send the vibes of energy into the fans with just say one song which opened their set at the trocadero... not many unless you' ve grown up listening to classic rock where you idolize guitar heroes. Chevelle performed their latest single known as "Clincher " other favorites "Vitamin R ", " Send The Pain Below ", and "The Red " which rounded out their hour long set at this years sno-core tour.
