Sweden’s Blindside will release their latest effort ‘The Great Depression” (produced by Lasse "Lars" Marten), in August of 2005. We were lucky enough to get an advance copy. Blindside has been very busy of late, the bands first two albums, their self-titled debut and "A Thought Crushed My Mind", were re-issued May 10 and were digitally Remastered before their release, The band also put out their first DVD “Ten Years Running Blind” which recently became available.
The album opens with the title track “The Great Depression” and the intro opens with the words “We are the sons and daughters of a revolution.” A fitting start to this 14-track offering, it is a spoken track one minute and twenty-seven seconds long before it rocks into “Heartattack” which shows the band has a little edgier more polished sound. The guitars are catchy and the vocals superb although a little buried in the overall production.
Other notable tracks include the slower burning “Put Back The Stars” which starts slow but rocks out eventually and my favorite off this offering, “Citylights” with its melodic choruses and catchy guitars. Also checkout ending track “When I Remember” for its interesting songwriting and changes from obvious formula.
Overall it’s a solid album that should reach out to new Blindside fans and delight ones that have been around for the bands ten year existence.
