The Dead Kennedy’s are most widely known for their controversial politically themed lyrics and most recently their courtroom battles with former singer Jello Biafra. The re release of ‘Give Me Convenience or Death’ is a testament to the longevity of their music and its ability to affect new generations. Originally released in 1987, the album is seventeen tracks of compilation tracks, singles, and rarities that go back over the last eight years of DK music history.
I’ll give you the best of the best for me personally right off the bat is of course “Night of the Living Rednecks” which is really a comical recollection of a night on Burnside in Portland and a run in with a bunch of typical redneck idiots. Having lied in Portland long enough to have had a similar experience, I loved hearing this track, and it was a rare gem. Then there is always my absolute favorite “Pull My Strings” with its hook-laden choruses and memorable verses.
Other rare and obscure tracks include "California Über Alles" and "Holiday in Cambodia," their remake of “I Fought the Law" and singles “Straight A’s” and “Kinky Sex Makes The World go Round”.
This is a jam packed greatest hits collection and a must have for the collection of any DK fan. It showcases many of the bands finest moments and reminds us that its not about the court battles, the controversy, or the legends, its about the music.
