Re:Ignition is a new band climbing the ranks of the San Francisco bay area underground and beyond; with a refreshing new sound and a cast of characters that lends them years of musical experience. The band includes in it’s ranks Snake (Burl Blakk) and Steev Esquivel from bay area phenomenon Skinlab, as well as top players Dave Moore and Mark Hernandez. The band as a whole is a combination of extensive music experience and abilities. The CD I received was Impressively recorded by Sylvia Massy (Tool, Sevendust, Deftones, System of a Down) at Radio Star Studios in Weed, CA. The production is impeccable. Some final work will also be done at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco this month.
Not only is the band in consideration for the upcoming summer national Gigantour, but they recently signed a management deal with Archetype Management (Fear Factory, Mnemic) and will soon be shooting a video for the song “Left Behind” which you can hear on their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/reignition. The video will be directed by Shawn Sparks known for his work with Machine Head and UnJust.
One of the most amazing things about this band is their incredible energy that comes through every song, the attention to detail and focus on power and delivery. Its apparent in all eight tracks on the CD I have that they are creating an extreme emotional landscape that is almost tangible. I would compare it to give you an idea of their sound but it has so many elements. Pinned down I would say it has an influence of Soundgarden mixed with Deftones, but unique in itself. It has a melodic heaviness that still maintain catchy hooks and choruses.
Check out the infectious chorus in opening track “Unbearable” and “Left Behind” and third track “Head On” has some outstanding vocals in the opening minute of the song before it heads into some really heavy riffing and fast percussion. Other highlight tracks are “By a Thread” and closer “Bright Red” with its creepy intro and memorable songwriting.
