Boys Night Out Artist - Boys Night Out
Album - Trainwreck
Label - F055 & Ferret Music LLC
Reviewer - Marc Halverson
Boys Night Out are back with a new direction that will either appeal to a wider audience or turn away loyal fans who are accustomed to their more hardcore/punk approach from their previous material. Boys Night Out take a risk and bring a power pop approach and move forward with “Trainwreck”.

“Trainwreck” opens with the ‘Introducing’ which is a spoken word by guest Ken Greenberg. ‘Dreaming’ is a power pop track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Musically, each song is very bland and sounds like anything that you can hear on the radio. That does not mean there is not any substance or parts to like about this album; but if you are expecting to hear a record that jams and moves you right through the album, “Trainwreck” is not the answer. However, songs like ‘Recovering’ showcase some screams and heavier riffing and the closing track ‘Dying’ has a catchy chorus and tone to it, but the rest of the album follows the same suit of the power pop approach.

Boys Night Out definitely have changed directions for either better or worse. Personally, I like the more up-tempo hardcore/metal approach and “Trainwreck” does not follow along those lines. They have definitely branched out and experimented with this album but it may either work in their favor of new audiences or leave their loyal following puzzled and unsure about the future of Boys Night Out.
