Ill Nino Artist - Ill Nino
Album - One Nation Underground
Label - Roadrunner
Reviewer - Tiffany Beaty
Ill Nino’s new album One Nation Underground featuring “This is War” & “What You Deserve” will be in stores September 27th and you have to check it out. The album was produced by Eddie Woohl and Dave Chavarri. This has to be one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. One of the few albums you can sit and listen to the whole CD and want more. It is definitely my new favorite Ill Nino CD. I agree with drummer Dave Chavarri who said, “Overall this is the strongest Ill Nino album ever.” The vibe of the album is so intense you will be instantly sucked in. The African percussion really made an impact on the album. The Spanish language lyrics and Latin attitude enhance every song. There is an aggressive mix of melodic vocals and crushing screams. Every track on the album has the potential to be a single. Lyrically One Nation Underground is very different from Ill Nino’s last two albums Confessions, and Revolution Revolution. The songs are very straight to the point; talking about culture and society in general.

The album kicks off with “This is War” it begins with tribal chanting, heavy riffs, mixed screams that flow to a melodic side. “My Resurrection” has powerful guitar riffs and vocals, with intense drumming and percussion. “What You Deserve”, which was Ill Nino’s first single off the album promises to be a massive hit. It has a very catchy beat. Mixed screams with vocal melodies and up beat guitar riffs. “Turns to Gray” starts with brutal drumming. Heavy guitar riffs and strong vocals. When you think the song is over it explodes into a killer change with aggressive screams. “De La Vida” is a song about Cristian’s little Japanese fighting fish.

“Laid to rest/ No oceans onto you will confess/ Self-compressed/ A dollar life so self-possessed/ La agua que te guia (The water that guides you)/ Estodo un mar de porquerias (Is just a sea of garbage)/ You will not emerge from this/ But when/ everything is said and done/ Tell me/ Lo que no paso (What has become)/ De tu vida.” (Of your life)

“Barely Breathing”, is an instrumental that makes you feels like you’re levitating. Until the phone rings and breaks into “Violent Saint”, a very heavy intense song with brutal vocals, powerful lyrics, and heavy guitar riffs.

“I fear in no one/ Nothing can touch me/ For lack of more frustration/ or my reconciliation/ I am the only thing that destroys me/ I hold my own convictions/ Yo me rompo.” (I will break)

Overall, this is another Ill Nino release that is defiantly worth praise. Any supporter of the metal scene should check this album out. Thirteen tracks that totals 44:04 minutes of pure metal with a Latin twist.

“If you’re an Ill Nino fan your going to be proud, if not you will become one hopefully.” -Cristian Machado
